FEAR

I was reminded today of something: "Perfect love drives out all Fear."

It is a startling thing when people live in fear and most of us are appalled when we hear that someone is living this way. The funny thing is that most of us have some fear that dwells inside us as well and we're just too scared to expose it. Such irony: fear brings out more fear.

I walked home a few nights ago at 11 pm and there was absolutely nobody outside and the reason was such: fear keeps them indoors. How can people live captivated by a fear of something and not do anything to change it?

If I honestly think about it I too have fears. I am constantly torn by the desire to dwell in fear, which is easier, or completely be freed by someone who is greater than my fears. How is it that fear can be easier? Shaking hands, darting eyes, running thoughts, perked ears, is this what we're designed for?

Take a step back. . . . what does fear actually do? It's quite simple. Fear forces us to think, react, and live in a conditioned way when put through our 'fear provoking' situations. Interesting how controlling fear can be. Yet, we love this fear because then we can avoid those things that instill fear in us and, even more, run from those things that we truly desire but are fearful of.

It is ludicrous how often I can desire to choose a life of fear rather than one of liberation, through one action of love, perfect love.
